Denim is as American as apple pie and MAC Cosmetics is taking the love for denim and transforming it from clothing to makuep.  The latest line of makeup from MAC is called Jenius and is made up of  eye shadows inspired by different denim jean finishes as well as blush, lip stick/gloss, and nail polish. The eye shadow and the nail polish are really the ones connected to the look of denim but the blush and lip products are colors that complement and set off the looks of jeans. There are 4 different colors of the eye shadow. There is a true blue denim shade, a black, a white, and a light blue with grey undertones shade of eye shadow to choose from all of which have photo transfer denim finish to them.

The Jenius nail polish has a great denim jean shade as well as a unique white shade of polish. The Biker Blue is a high gloss frost nail polish that is a  blue black base with blue and purple pearl sparkles . The Frayed To Order white polish is a matte creme polish with a duo chrome pink effect. The color though does dry matte losing a bit of the duo-chrome but you can put a shiny top coat over this polish to make the duo-chrome more vibrant.

In addition to the denim shades of eye shadow and nail polish there are two blushes and three lipsticks and lipglosses in colors to complement the blues of the eye shadows and nail polishes.

Yellow is a color that can brighten the cloudiest of days.  It is bright and cheerful but it is also a color that some shy away from. The problem with yellow is that if your skin tone is really pale and you wear certain shades of yellow it will make you look washed out so it is best to wear a deep yellow it will warm you up. If you have a tan or a darker complexion then a paler yellow is your best bet.

The thing is though that wearing yellow clothes is fairly easy and you can add accessories and other colors to break up the yellow palette to make the outfit work with your complexion but when it comes to nail polish it is a bit harder since it is literally against your skin. You can obviously avoid this problem by not wearing a yellow nail polish but the thing is there are so many great yellow polishes to choose from. By cutting yellow from your collection you are truly missing out on something great.  The key to wearing a yellow polish is to know your skin tone and make sure to choose the right one for you. not just the hottest color that everyone else is wearing.

Chanel makes some wonderful nail polishes or as they refer to them Le Vernis Nail Colour. The formulas and colors that they use for their polishes are absolutely exquisite and a bit pricy so make sure that you do not pick a yellow polish on a whim and you make sure that it works on you. There are not too many choices of Chanel Le Vernis, the first is Chanel Robertson LA Sunrise #287 Le Vernis Nail Polish which was a limited edition color 2 years ago so it is a bit hard to find and more expensive than a normal Chanel polish but is really a great lemon yellow with a bit of a silver shimmer. For 2011 Chanel is releasing Mimosa. This color is also a lemon yellow and has yellow and orange shimmer with a few fleck of green mixed in. Overall than the Mimosa is a bit lighter and more shimmery than the LA Sunrise.

I love Deborah Lippmann Glitter Polishes and have not tried any “traditional” ones so I am not an expert with overall look, application, and overall wear but I have not heard many complaints about these polishes too much. The  Deborah Lippmann Yellow Brick Road nail polish was just released on  April 1st  and is already flying off the shelves.  The color is a sheer jelly yellow. This is the color that Lady Gaga was wearing for her Grammy performance last month.  Yellow Brick Road was not supposed to be released until later in the year but with the popularity of requests after Lady Gaga wore it the release date was pushed up.

For me polka dots always put a smile on my face. I really do not know what is is about them but I have always been drawn to dots ever since I was very young. Even today I have dots on my dishware. As much as I like dots though, for some reason, I do not have too muck clothing with dots on them but I have been on a quest to find some great dotted clothing for Spring and Summer 2011. I am particularly looking for some great polka dot dresses because I tend to wear jeans or shorts with a shirt and I am also trying to break that pattern. My favorite thing about all the polka dot dresses that I have found is that all also incorporate a second Spring 2011 trend.

The first dotted dress that I have found is the ROZAE R.N. Mixed Maxi Dress. The thing that I like the most about this dress is the mix of patterns on it. The top has a small band of polka dots followed by a section of shell shaped flowers then a vertical stripe section at the waist   ending with a polka dot skirt. The other factor that draws me to this dress is that it is a maxi dress which are high on my spring 2011 shopping list.

Another polka dot dress that I really like is Club Monaco Georgia Dress. This is a navy blue with white dots sheer dress that comes with a slip lining so there is no worry about having to find the right thing to wear under the dress. Since it is sheer it will be a great dress for summer as well.

The  Alice + Olivia Lulu Polka Dot Dress is the most feminine and girly polka dot that I have found. Not only is it pink but it has a three tiers of ruffles at the bottom and lace at the v-neck top.  This though is not a dress if you need to wear a bra because the dress has an open back.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs Day Dots Dress is very different from all of the other dresses. It has multiple colprs of overlapping dots and is more casual than the others. The only think I am unsure about with this dress is the shoulders since they are so pointy. Perhaps though they will lay down a bit when worn and washed.

When I think of leather skirts I immediately think of tight short skirts in either black or red from the 80s that are not very sophisticated or classy looking. I have never really been drawn to them when shopping so I never paid attention to them to see that they have improved immensely. I have to say I was completely shocked when I started seeing skirts that are pleated , tie-dyed, and overall trendy and in fashion. I also have been pleasantly surprised to see that there are leather shorts that look great.

When I first saw the  Gryphon Tie Dye Leather Skirt I could not believe that it was leather. It is a gorgeous skirt that has ruching at the waist making it even more desirable.

There are plenty of leather shorts to choose from if you would prefer them over a skirt. One of my favorites is the
Robert Rodriguez Leather Shorts. These short are longer than most other leather shorts and are cuffed, light-weight, have slanted side pockets, and are pleated in the front / darted in the back.

Sheer clothing, especially shirts is not a new trend but it seems like more designers this Spring 2011 season have created sheer clothing. Not all of these clothes though are sheer all over. Some of these clothes have minimal sheerness strategically placed so you do not have to worry about what is worn underneath  while others are purposely designed to be layered over clothes that is not see through.The great thing about a shirt or dress being sheer is that it is also light weight so you will be quite comfortable in warm and hot weather.

Fringe is everywhere this season. There are numerous fringe shoes to choose from as well as fringe clothing and jewelry. One of the best ways to show your love of fringe is by carrying a fringe handbag. There are endless possibilities when it comes to a fringe purse, you can find casual everyday bags with fringe as well as bags for special occasions including evening clutches.

The great thing about fringe bags is that they all do not look the same. Some of these bags have long thin fringe pieces all over while some have minimal fringe on them. There are plenty of short pieced fringe bags of which many of these bags have layers of fringe making them stand out in the crowd. Heels are always a great shoe. Many can be dressed up or dressed down so you will get a lot of wear from them. If you are trying to not only capture the trend of fringe but was something that is bright and bold , the Enzo Angiolini Laila is a great heel. Another heel that captures multiple trends, fringe and chains, is the Michael Kors Vienna. A great basic heel that should give you a lot of wear is the Max Studio Boudica. Fringe Wedges

There are a lot of fun attention grabbing fringe wedges for sale. my favorite are the Sigerson Morrison 9723 . The combination of the hot pink and the orange are my favorite and have been since the 1980s. There is something about the two colors that really excites me. The Kelsi Dagger Madison are a basic shoe that will go with so many outfits in your closet and the Eric Michael Malu are a great shade of purple that is not too bright and not too pastel.

Fringe Booties

Spring is not usually a time for tall boots but the Roberto Cavalli T7903A have the crochet trend as well as fringe and the color is light so you can wear them even when it is warm.  The Michael Kors Malika border winter and spring so they are best for early in the spring season. A great pair of open toe booties that are wearable all spring and summer are  Jeffrey Campbell Mary Lou Wedge Bootie Ivory Suede which would look great with a pair of shorts or a skirt or dress. Last night I watched the movie The Runaways starrign Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and it made me think how happy I am that the fashions from the 1970s are back. While I enjoy all the crochet clothes that are popular, it is really the bell bottom and flare jeans that I like the most.

I love a great pair of flare jeans that look like they could have been preserved from the 70s and to me that means that they are faded and possibly distressed. I am not particularly drawn to really dark wash denim, especially when the weather is warm.
