Denim is as American as apple pie and MAC Cosmetics is taking the love for denim and transforming it from clothing to makuep.  The latest line of makeup from MAC is called Jenius and is made up of  eye shadows inspired by different denim jean finishes as well as blush, lip stick/gloss, and nail polish. The eye shadow and the nail polish are really the ones connected to the look of denim but the blush and lip products are colors that complement and set off the looks of jeans. There are 4 different colors of the eye shadow. There is a true blue denim shade, a black, a white, and a light blue with grey undertones shade of eye shadow to choose from all of which have photo transfer denim finish to them.

The Jenius nail polish has a great denim jean shade as well as a unique white shade of polish. The Biker Blue is a high gloss frost nail polish that is a  blue black base with blue and purple pearl sparkles . The Frayed To Order white polish is a matte creme polish with a duo chrome pink effect. The color though does dry matte losing a bit of the duo-chrome but you can put a shiny top coat over this polish to make the duo-chrome more vibrant.

Everyone has heard of a LBD ( Little Black Dress ) but few have a LRD (Little Red Dress ) and a red dress is a must to own. A red dress can be worn year round just like a black one but the difference is that if you wear a red one you will most definitely stand out in the crowd.  Red will not only stand out in a sea of black but will pop amongst neutrals and pale colors this spring and fall.

Red can be paired with any neutral so it is quite versatile but you do need be sure to pick the correct shade of red to complement your skin tone.  If you have a rosy or red complexion a red dress may make you look like a lobster so do not go tanning ahead of time if you plan on wearing  a red dress. Red does look great on a beige or pale skin tone as well as if you have a  dark skin tone. In fact if you are dark then you can wear the brightest of reds and you will look spectacular.  If you are fair skinned and a blonde then your best shades of red are true reds, blue reds, and  tomato reds which have little orange undertones.  Having brown eyes and/or deep brunette hair you should try a deep dramatic red.  If your skin is olive then you should try a red with orange undertones and scarlet reds. If your skin falls somewhere between pale and dark then a coral red is the color for you since it will  show off you skin vibrantly.

The DKNY Cap Sleeve Crew Neck Dress is a basic LRD that will carry you from season to season and never go out of style. A simple dress with flattering with bias pleats at one hit it is also quite stylish.

From a young age girls are associated with bows, whether it is in the hair, on a shoe, or a dress. As we get older like 10+ bows seem to disappear from our clothing and hair for it is thought to be something that only babies and toddlers wear, except on occasions where we dress up.  Bows are not just for the infant and toddler set, in fact there are some great dresses and shirts that have a bow or two adorned on them in a updated, modern, and adult way. All of these dresses are very feminine and range for casual to more formal so you will have little trouble finding something that fits your needs.

2011 spring fashion can be labeled as a season of previous decade inspiration. We have seen 50s, 60, 70, and 80s fashion trends all reinvented in a modern feel. All of these  bow dresses that I  have found have an updated vintage feel to them.

I love the Dance Partner Dress by Tofu . It is the prefect update of a 50s dress. Just put your hair in a high sleek pony tail and throw on a pair of oxfords or super feminine heels and you are ready to go. This semi-sheer dress has polka dots  with  contrasting waist and wrist hems. The best part of this dress is the large floppy bow at the V-neck.

A really fun and youthful dress is the Girly Delights Dress. It also is a polka dot dress but it could not be more different than the above mentioned dress. This dress has a feminine sweetheart neckline that makes me thing of the 80s. With large polka dots and bow pattern across the entire dress and a removable bow sash this is really a fun dress.

A blend of the 70s and 80s, the Sweet Jamz Dress in DJ will surely bring you the attention. The gold foil-like top of the dress reminds me of all the gold lame that was all the rage in the late 70s/ early 80s. The one shoulder with the bow was practically a staple on all 80s prom dresses.

Floats Your Fancy Dress by Dahlia sure has a lot of lace. This dress reminds me a 1920s dress with the feminine lace, beautiful mauve color, and velvet bow. Riveting Gaze Dress by Dahlia. This dress makes me think a Laura Ashley clothes from the 80s but with a modern twist. The large bow on the neck adds a fun element to this dress.

Nude tones are one of the “it” colors for the season and the Beside Myself Dress is this color. This dress style makes me think of a 60s mod dress and I love the big bow on the shoulder.

Ruffles are usually seen on the hems of dresses and skirts but one of the biggest trends for 2011 is to wear shirts that have ruffles at the neck. Ruffles at the neckline have been around for centuries, just look back at portraits from Elizabethan times and practically everyone from men to women to children wore some sort of ruffles around their neck. The interpretation of this look is nowhere near as extreme as it was back then, in fact the ruffles of 2011 are quite demure and reserved compared to the past.

The Parker Ruffle Long Sleeve Top is a semi sheer silk shirt with bell sleeves, soft ruffles at the sleeves, and layered ruffles at the neckline. This great shirt also features a tie at the chest for closure of this shirt. I love this shirt and think it would look great with pair of shorts and heels or dress pants. Available in Black or White the Joie Jenna Ruffle Blouse is a casual shirt that has cascading ruffles at the neck and bust. This shirt also has a tie and the neck that can be left untied if preferred. A semi-sheer blouse that is perfect to wear when you want to be casual but still look well put together.

A very feminine pink shirt with ruffles is the Boulee Ruffled Top . This shirt has voluminous ruffles that will most definitely draw attention your way. A button up shirt with decorative gold buttons makes this shirt a step above casual. Pair this shirt with a simple dark jean and heels and you are ready for a night out.

While few of us can look look as flawless as Gwyneth Paltrow or Celine Dion did when they walked the red carpet of the 2011 Academy Awards, we can do our best to recreate the dresses. Metallic colors are great for dresses since they will capture the light and flatter so well.

Gwyneth Paltrow looked utterly flawless in her Calvin Klein dress and Brian Atwood Martina heels. Her hair was stick straight and it just flowed perfectly into her fitted dress. This dress fit her so well that it looked like she was the model mannequin. Celine Dion also looked amazing in her Armani Prive dress. It is unbelievable that she gave birth to twins 4 months ago.

While none of these dresses below can truly compare to the magnificence of the ones these stars wore they still have the same overall feel to them.

This season the hottest style of denim jeans are flares / bell-bottoms. There is no difference between a flare and a bell bottom jean, it is only what you or the designer prefer to call this type of jean.  No matter what you call the jean type by definition they are going to be jeans that are fitted from the waist to the knees and then will flare out creating a bell shape.

There is no one universal look for a flare jean. These jeans vary from one brand to another and even from one style to another greatly. There are low rise, medium rise, and high rise flare jeans. While everyone can wear regular rise jeans and most can wear a low rise jean, you need to be careful if you want a high rise jean if you are petite. A high rise jean is going to make you look shorter than you already are. Another thing to consider when you are shopping for flare / bell-bottom jeans is the amount of flare the actual jean has. The wider the flare the shorter you will look as well so if you are petite it is best to stick with a not so dramatic flare.

While most denim jeans no matter the style are going to be a shade of blue, there are plenty of black or white jeans to choose. For Spring 2011 one of the biggest color trends is white so you should consider at least one pair of white flare jeans in your wardrobe.

1. Hudson Ferris Flap Pocket Flare Jeans are a low rise jean slim through hips and thighs and then a dramatic wide flare. Be careful if you are petite that they do not make you look shorter than you already are.
2. TEXTILE Elizabeth & James Diana Flare Jeans are a wide leg jean and not a flare.
3. Paige Denim Lou Lou Tulip Jeans the flare is the shape of a tulip on these low mid-rise jeans and there are small shreds on the front of the legs.
4. AG Adriano Goldschmied Belle Flare Jeans are a low rise moderate flare jean.
5. MiH Marrakesh Flare Jeans are a mid rise jean with a modest flare and will work on all body types.

Black jeans seem to be a bit dressier than blue jeans and there are plenty of great black flare jeans to buy. Just like all flare jeans please keep in mind your body shape when purchasing them.

5.J Brand Gigi Cropped Flare Jeans are quite different from most flare jeans since they are a crop leg. If you are petite then these are not the best jean for you because crop jeans already make you look short and the flare accentuates this.

For me polka dots always put a smile on my face. I really do not know what is is about them but I have always been drawn to dots ever since I was very young. Even today I have dots on my dishware. As much as I like dots though, for some reason, I do not have too muck clothing with dots on them but I have been on a quest to find some great dotted clothing for Spring and Summer 2011. I am particularly looking for some great polka dot dresses because I tend to wear jeans or shorts with a shirt and I am also trying to break that pattern. My favorite thing about all the polka dot dresses that I have found is that all also incorporate a second Spring 2011 trend.

The first dotted dress that I have found is the ROZAE R.N. Mixed Maxi Dress. The thing that I like the most about this dress is the mix of patterns on it. The top has a small band of polka dots followed by a section of shell shaped flowers then a vertical stripe section at the waist   ending with a polka dot skirt. The other factor that draws me to this dress is that it is a maxi dress which are high on my spring 2011 shopping list.

Another polka dot dress that I really like is Club Monaco Georgia Dress. This is a navy blue with white dots sheer dress that comes with a slip lining so there is no worry about having to find the right thing to wear under the dress. Since it is sheer it will be a great dress for summer as well.

The  Alice + Olivia Lulu Polka Dot Dress is the most feminine and girly polka dot that I have found. Not only is it pink but it has a three tiers of ruffles at the bottom and lace at the v-neck top.  This though is not a dress if you need to wear a bra because the dress has an open back.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs Day Dots Dress is very different from all of the other dresses. It has multiple colprs of overlapping dots and is more casual than the others. The only think I am unsure about with this dress is the shoulders since they are so pointy. Perhaps though they will lay down a bit when worn and washed.

When I think of leather skirts I immediately think of tight short skirts in either black or red from the 80s that are not very sophisticated or classy looking. I have never really been drawn to them when shopping so I never paid attention to them to see that they have improved immensely. I have to say I was completely shocked when I started seeing skirts that are pleated , tie-dyed, and overall trendy and in fashion. I also have been pleasantly surprised to see that there are leather shorts that look great.

When I first saw the  Gryphon Tie Dye Leather Skirt I could not believe that it was leather. It is a gorgeous skirt that has ruching at the waist making it even more desirable.

There are plenty of leather shorts to choose from if you would prefer them over a skirt. One of my favorites is the
Robert Rodriguez Leather Shorts. These short are longer than most other leather shorts and are cuffed, light-weight, have slanted side pockets, and are pleated in the front / darted in the back.

Ruffles are feminine and playful. With their free flowing movement they add volume and fullness to wherever they are applied on an outfit.  You need to keep in mind though that since they add dimension that if you do not want attention drawn to an area of your body that the ruffles are not in that spot. Women with a larger chest should stay away from ruffles in that area and if you are self conscious about your bottom half then stay away from ruffle skirts. If you do have a troublesome part of your body that does not mean that you can not wear ruffles. It just means that you need to keep the ruffles far from that area to balance your body out or keep the ruffles to ones on the smaller side and not big and bold ones.

A nice casual ruffle dress is the perfect choice for summer especially when there is a light breeze. The way that a light wind just makes the ruffles billow makes any woman look great.

The Juicy Couture Ruffle Denim Sundress is a simple ruffle dress with ruffles at the bottom hem and trimming the top hem as well. This is a casual dress that can be thrown on easily and you will look casual chic. Keep in mind that with the ruffles right at the top of this dress, it will draw attention to your chest.

There is nothing more feminine than florals and ruffles. The Parker Ruffle Dress in Baby Floral has both. The dress has vertical ruffles from top to bottom which means that the ruffles will not draw attention to any one area of the dress making this a great choice for everyone.

On really hot humid days the minimal amount of clothing is desired to wear so you can be as comfortable as possible. The C&C California Ruffle Tank Dress is perfect for those days. A light weight jersey dress that is very fashionable and edgy with small unfinished edged ruffle tiers and v-neck front and a racerback.

Not all ruffle dresses are short, the Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Long Ruffle Slip Dress is a long maxi dress in a zulu print and has a minimal ruffled bottom hem. This is a great dress for anyone to wear.

Sheer clothing, especially shirts is not a new trend but it seems like more designers this Spring 2011 season have created sheer clothing. Not all of these clothes though are sheer all over. Some of these clothes have minimal sheerness strategically placed so you do not have to worry about what is worn underneath  while others are purposely designed to be layered over clothes that is not see through.The great thing about a shirt or dress being sheer is that it is also light weight so you will be quite comfortable in warm and hot weather.

The Geren Ford Sheer Panel Dressis a dress with minimal sheerness. This cream colored silk dress has sheer shoulders so it is best to wear without a bra or with a strapless bra so your straps do not show through. This is a great dress to choose if you want to embrace the nude tone trend.
