Deborah Lippmann Juicy Couture Holiday 2011 Collection

No Comments 16 October 2011

For the first time ever, Deborah Lippmann is joining forces with Juicy Couture to create amazing exclusive nail polish colors for the 2011 Holiday Season. There will be two 3 piece nail polish sets ( $48 each ) and two hand warmer / nail polish sets ( $68 each )

The first trio which is called Precious Metals is made up of Believe, Here Comes the Queen, and Jewel in the Crown. Since two of the three colors are exclusive to this collection you will need to buy all three colors together.

Believe is a color that was originally made by Deborah Lippmann in collaboration with Cher earlier this year so many may already own this shade but if not you should definitely pick it up on its own or as part of this trio. Believe is described as a Metallic Sizzling Shimmering Gold Beige but that description really does not give it much justice. It is a gorgeous streak free foil finish polish that leans more towards the silver side than it does the gold.
Here Comes The Queen is a Juicy Couture Deborah Lippmann exclusive. The shade is a very sheer gold glaze that can be worn on its own or used layered over another color to add some gold glisten. If you choose to wear it on its own you will need at least 3, possibly four coats of polish to get a decent gold infusion, otherwise the gold is not very visible.
Jewel In The Crown is also a Deborah Lippmann Juicy Couture exclusive and can be described as a shimmering pewter. The shade looks like it may have tiny micro glitter infused adding to the shine and glimmer. Of the three colors, this is the one that is peaking my interest the most.

The other 3 piece collection is called Shimmer and Shine. It includes Bring on the Bling, Whatever Lola Wants, and Since I Fell For You. All of shades that have previously been released on their own so if you do not want the entire set you can buy them individually. If you are interested in all three colors it makes sense to buy the set to save some money. Bring on the Bling sells for $20 and the other two colors sell for $16.

Bring On the Bling is a shade that has been released previously and included real virgin diamond powder. The polish is meant to be worn over other colors to give them a sparkle and shine that otherwise is not present.
Whatever Lola Wants is the shade that Deborah Lippmann created with entertainer Kelly Ripa and named after Kelly’s daughter, Lola. This sparkling lavender is sweet and feminine. A somewhat sheer iridescent lavender, it shimmers and sparkles like a diamond. It is the perfect year round polish.
Since I Fell For You is the only opaque color part of this trio. It dries in a satin shimmer finish. The color is a rich shiraz red color. It is the perfect classic red shade that will never go out of style.

The other part of the Juicy Couture Deborah Lippmann collaboration is with the Hand warmer / Nail Polish Set. Each set comes with a hand warmer and a nail polish in the same shade and meant to be worn together. The hand warmers are fingerless so your nails will show. These sets are perfect if you are a fan of fingerless gloves or just want Jewel in the Crown without the rest of the Precious Metals collection.

Jewel in the Crown: A Juicy Couture and Deborah Lippmann shade exclusive, this shimmering pewter is made for the modern matriarch.
Believe: Inspired by the queen of onstage glam, Cher, this glimmering gold beige gets nails holiday-ready in an instant.

Whether you are a fan of Deborah Lippmann, Juicy Couture, or both these are must haves so hurry out and buy them or put them on your Christmas wish list for Santa to buy you this year.

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want To Have Fun and I Know What Boys Like Summer 2011 Nail Polish

No Comments 04 April 2011

Deborah Lippmann is at it again with two more great nail polish colors, Girls Just Want To Have Fun and I Know What Boys Like . These are both vivid, bold colors perfect for Summer 2011.  I love the names of the polishes as well as the intense coloring of them.

Girls Just Want To Have Fun is named after the song by Cyndi Lauper that was released in 1983. The shade of the polish a coral pink. Deborah Lippmann worked very hard in perfecting this shade to make it wearable on a wide variety of skin tones because coral is  a very hard color to wear not only as a nail polish but in clothing as well.  Coral  tends to not complement many skin tones but Deborah resolved this problem by making Girls Just Want To Have Fun icon a very pinky coral that is not intimidating and quite complementary to wear on all skin tones. I do wonder though if this color was at all influenced by the shade of pink hair  that Cyndi Lauper was known for in the 1980s.

The second color part of the Summer 2011 Deborah Lippmann nail polish collection,I Know What Boys Like icon, and it is a creamy purple blue. The name is taken from the 1980 hit by the group The Waitressess.  Deborah created this color after feedback from her loyal customers expressed interest in a blue nail polish. I love that this color is so different from other brands that have a blue polish. Most other blue polishes are true blues, ranging from pale baby blue to dark midnight blues but are not skewed towards a purple like this is. iconThis is a creme finish polish so you can most likely get a great all over complete coverage with two coats.

Both of these colors are great updates of popular shades from the 80s. I love that the two colors are opposite in shade and that their names each have boy or girl mentioned in them. I also love that the Girls polish is pink and the Boys is blue. These colors will not be around forever so it is best to hurry up and buy them now.

Deborah Lippmann Spring 2011 Collection : Glitter In the Air Nail Polish and Naked Nail Polish

1 Comment 15 March 2011

For Spring 2011 Deborah Lippmann has released two new colors. One is a sheer peachy pink  beige appropriately called Naked and the other a sky blue sheer confetti glitter called Glitter In The Air. Naked is the color that was on Anne Hathaway’s nails when she hosted the Academy Awards last month and Glitter In The Air is named after the song  that Pink sang at the Grammy’s.
Deborah Lippmann Naked is a great all around peach beige nude nail polish. It is fairly sheer but still gives enough coverage that you are not constantly thinking that there is not enough nail polish covering your nails. This is a color that goes with everything ( I mean Anne Hathaway has so many outfit changes and her nails looked great with them all ). I love the fact that Deborah Lippmann colors are so shiny on their own even without a topcoat.

Deborah Lippmann Glitter In The Air is a very sheer blue in fact when you apply it it looks like a sheer clear polish with pieces of glitter in it. The glitter in this polish, like other Deborah Lippmann glitters is a mix of large hexagons and small pieces of glitter. The glitter is blues and pinks with some silver mixed in. The name was inspired by Pink but the polish was designed to look light and airy like cotton candy and that is why it is the color that it is. You can wear this color alone or it looks really good layered over other colors to make them sparkle.

Yellow Nail Polishes Including Chanel Mimosa : A Hot Trend for 2011

4 Comments 03 March 2011

Yellow is a color that can brighten the cloudiest of days.  It is bright and cheerful but it is also a color that some shy away from. The problem with yellow is that if your skin tone is really pale and you wear certain shades of yellow it will make you look washed out so it is best to wear a deep yellow it will warm you up. If you have a tan or a darker complexion then a paler yellow is your best bet.

The thing is though that wearing yellow clothes is fairly easy and you can add accessories and other colors to break up the yellow palette to make the outfit work with your complexion but when it comes to nail polish it is a bit harder since it is literally against your skin. You can obviously avoid this problem by not wearing a yellow nail polish but the thing is there are so many great yellow polishes to choose from. By cutting yellow from your collection you are truly missing out on something great.  The key to wearing a yellow polish is to know your skin tone and make sure to choose the right one for you. not just the hottest color that everyone else is wearing.

Chanel makes some wonderful nail polishes or as they refer to them Le Vernis Nail Colour. The formulas and colors that they use for their polishes are absolutely exquisite and a bit pricy so make sure that you do not pick a yellow polish on a whim and you make sure that it works on you. There are not too many choices of Chanel Le Vernis, the first is Chanel Robertson LA Sunrise #287 Le Vernis Nail Polish which was a limited edition color 2 years ago so it is a bit hard to find and more expensive than a normal Chanel polish but is really a great lemon yellow with a bit of a silver shimmer. For 2011 Chanel is releasing Mimosa. This color is also a lemon yellow and has yellow and orange shimmer with a few fleck of green mixed in. Overall than the Mimosa is a bit lighter and more shimmery than the LA Sunrise.

I love Deborah Lippmann Glitter Polishes and have not tried any “traditional” ones so I am not an expert with overall look, application, and overall wear but I have not heard many complaints about these polishes too much. The  Deborah Lippmann Yellow Brick Road icon nail polish was just released on  April 1st  and is already flying off the shelves.  The color is a sheer jelly yellow. This is the color that Lady Gaga was wearing for her Grammy performance last month.  Yellow Brick Road was not supposed to be released until later in the year but with the popularity of requests after Lady Gaga wore it the release date was pushed up.

While the above polishes are are great, the fact is that they either have not been released yet or are hard to find so perhaps you want to find a great yellow to start wearing now. The NARS Desperadoiconis a rich golden yellow and should work for all skin tones.

Butter LONDON is another brand that has a great yellow polish that is already available. The butter LONDON Cheeky Chops is a pale creamy yellow.

Other great brands of Nail Polish that have yellows currently are OPI, China Glaze, and Zoya. These are brands that have a polish that is under $10 which is great when buying a color that you may only wear a few times before retiring. icon

Nude Nail Polishes All The Rage for Spring 2011

Nude Nail Polish

Nude nail polish colors are all the rage for Spring and Summer 2011. These great colors give your nails a subtle look that will either balance your already neutral clothing or will allow your clothes to shine if you choose to go the bright and bold route. The great thing about nail polish is that you can change it quite quickly to go with your current look. Most of the nail polishes on the market today are without the harsh chemicals and actually dry pretty quick. You can always add some Quck Dry Top Coat to make your polish dry even faster.

Butter London is one of my favorite brands of Nail Polish. It is is British brand that is quickly gaining quite the following here in the United States. There are not too many nude nail colors to pick from but the few that they do have are all great colors.

My absolute favorite brand of nail polish is Zoya. Many have not heard of this brand but they really do have the best formulas for their polishes. They are chemical free as well as vegan. I can paint my nails and a week later not have  a single chip on any of my nails. There are so many nude colors from this line but I suggest buying their pre-packed purity collection. You will get 6 different colors, all are not nude but they are pale soft colors.

Deborah Lippman Glitter Polish

While  glitter polish is not new , the way that  glitter polishes are viewed  is very different than they have been  in the past.  I remember when I was 8 or 9 years old how much I begged my mom to buy me some glitter polish. Glitter polish back then was a cheap dollar polish that would last for a day or so, but as a kid, that was fine with me. Now, glitter polish is a great choice for adults to wear since the quality and look of glitter polish has improved immensely.

The popular glitter polishes made and sold now can not be compared to the glitter polishes of the past. These new , ever so popular and trendy polishes are made from the best ingredients. They often are jellylike, meaning that the glitter is suspended and layered as opposed to looking flat and one dimensional.  This makes it the  perfect accent to you outfit allowing you to forgo attention grabbing jewelry  since the glitter is so blingy and shiny.

Deborah Lippmann is an  industry leader in cosmetics, being a popular brand that  celebrities have worn for a while now. The nail polishes created by Deborah Lippmann are a must have, especially the  glitter polishes. These polishes do not contain toulene, DPP, or formaldehyde ( also known as being the 3 free) which are harmful chemicals that other less quality brands of polish include in their formulas. Deborah Lippmann also does not test products on animals. The glitter polishes are  great on their own or as a top layer to a solid cream polish.

Lippmann Collection Nail Lacquer – Boom Boom Pow is a   “24-carat gold flecked explosion” that was inspired by Kate Moss during  a photo shoot that Deborah worked on with her. The shoot had a nude Kate Moss adorned with gold necklaces, bracelets, and rings. This  inspired Deborah to create a nail polish that shows  that Gold Nail polish is THE accessory to wear. The base of this polish is shimmery micro gold. The glitter pieces mixed in are both tiny and small hexagonal pieces.

Lippmann Collection Nail Lacquer – Today Was A Fairytale is Virgin Diamond Powder-infused silvery-blue starlight shade with brilliant silver sequins. This color was inspired by songstrees divas Cher and Mariah Carey, more specifically the dramatic hand gestures that they have. Deborah wanted a color that would be as show stopping as the divas themselves and could be seen by all the  from the front row to the back of the arena. The polish has a lot  of micro hexagonal glitter as well as larger hexagonal silver sequins.

Lippmann Collection Nail Lacquer – Across The Universe is a color that is a sheer navy jelly base with metallic blue and green hexagonal and small glitter pieces. Lippmann Collection- Happy Birthday is truly a party in a bottle. A clear jelly base polish with small and hexagonal multi colored glitter, this color immediately makes you think about sprinkles on a birthday cake. A fun color to wear no matter the occassion. This color is great on its own but is even better layered on top of a black or white polish.

No matter the Deborah Lippman color you decide on there are a few helpful hints you should know to help maximize the application of these polishes. First, always apply the polish to a clean, dry nail. You should also put a base coat on first, it does not have to be a Deborah Lippman base but it should be a a 3 free brand.  Once the base is on you can apply the glitter. Use the least amount of strokes as possible, so that the sequins stay in place. Try not to wipe the brush on the side touching your nail, this too will disturb the glitter. Wait a few minutes between layers so each can dry a bit. Many of these glitter polishes are shiny on their own but you can always top it with a super shine top coat.

Chances are you will tire of the color before it chips or fades and when you are ready to change polish colors you may find that these polishes are a bit harder to remove compared to a regular creme polish. The trick for removal is quite simple. Using cotton balls or pads, cut them into 10 small pieces slightly larger than the size of your nail. Soak the cotton in some acetone-free nail polish remover. While the pieces are soaking cut up 5 small pieces of foil , large enough to wrap around your finger.  Once ready to use put a soaked piece of cotton on top of a finger and wrap the foil around the finger. Do the same for the remaining fingers on your hand. Wait 5 minutes, unwrap and most of the polish should have rubbed off but any remaining polish should wipe right off with ease. Once the first hand is done, repeat with the other hand.  You are now ready to start your manicure over with the next great color you choose.
