Dior Spring 2011 Rock Your Nails Collection + Rock Coat Topcoat

No Comments 18 March 2011

For Spring 2011 Dior has released a 5 color collection that is called Rock Your Nails. They also have released a Rock Coat Topcoat. All the colors from these collections are limited edition so it is best not to wait to buy these colors. The colors of this collection are a far cry from most other brands Spring Collections which for the most part are pastel, neutral, and light. The Dior Vernis Rock Your Nails Collection are all colors that are quite saturated, bold, and some are quite dark.  Like previous Dior nail varnishes these colors are  semi sparkle creme meaning that they are a creme polish with hints of shimmer throughout. I love that these colors have some sparkle but are not overly shimmered. You can always add more glitter over the polish if you really want to make it attention grabbing.

The Rock Coat Topcoat is a semi sheer black topcoat that turns any color into a smoky finish. For best results you should put this Rock Coat over a dark color since it does not really work over really light ones. I am kind of surprised that this topcoat is being  released in the Spring since I personally think it would be best in the fall and winter when nails are usually a  dark color vs. the spring nails are usually light or bright in color.  In any case I do like the this topcoat and will most likely , after testing it over some colors, put it away until the Fall. For best results you should apply the Rock Coat over nails that are dry otherwise the topcoat will be streaky and not give optimal results.

Dior Avenue Montaigne Spring 2011 Nail Polish

While the outlook for Spring 2011 clothing is bright and bold, the trend for nails is pale and neutral.  With so many vibrant colored clothing  and shoes, you will want to balance out your look with a  neutral or pale nail polish. This will prevent you from having your clothing and accessories clashing with your nails.  Now you will not  look like Helena Bonham Carter in Alice in Wonderland.

Two of the best nail polishes to wear this spring are made by Christian Dior. The spring 2011 makeup collection is  Avenue Montaigne. If the name sounds familiar,  it is because Avenue Montaigne  is the renowned  Parisian street  where  the  Christian Dior boutique is located. The collection’s palette is neutral and the prominent colors of this collection are gray and a rosey pink.  Grey has long been associated with Dior and the pink is a great complementary color to  gray.  The formula for the Avenue Montaigne nail polish is on the thick side so most likely you will only need to use one coat of the polish. The polish dries very quickly so you do not need to worry about having to sit still for a long period  of time. The brush for the polishes is a bit shorter and plumper than most other brands which means that the distance from the brush to the nail is close allowing much better control and less shakiness of your hand for application.  The polish is long lasting once dry and chances are you will be bored with the color long before your nails chip.

Christian Dior Pink Boa Nail Enamel iconis a light pink creme polish with slight peach undertones. I would call it a natural pink. There is an ever so slight shimmer to the polish that can really only be seen when the sun hits it perfectly. Applying a single coat of the polish will give you a sheer look to your nails and three coats is a great solid color finish.  While I have not tried it as a french manicure I think it should not only work but will look great that way.

Christian Dior Gris Montaigne Nail Enamel may look familiar because it was once part of the City Gris Collection. This grey  is a neutral color that is the perfect balance  warm and a cool and has a smooth cream finish. You will only need a single coat of this color to achieve an opaque  finish and  two or three coats will make it a deeper grey. A top coat will help the manicure stay on though it is not needed to add any shine since this color dries shiny on its own.

Both of these colors are most definitely a must have since they are neutral and will go with your entire wardrobe no matter your clothes, shoes, or accessories. If you were to only purchase a color or two this season these are the two that should be at the top of your list.  There truly is no need to wear any other color on your nails than these.
