A.L.C. Macrame Long Maxi Dress

Nothing says Boho Chic more than macrame does.

The A.L.C. Macrame Long Dress, featured in the June 2011 edition of Lucky Magazine, is a great dress to wear this summer. It is light and airy, perfect for hot summer days and nights, as well as fashionable and on trend. A long accordion pleated dress with unfinished edges at the hem allow this dress to flow freely and is not at all tight and uncomfortable to wear on a hot day. The unfinished edges give this dress a natural bohemian feel to it. The bodice of the dress is a scoop neck halter open macrame with distressed metal beads woven into the macrame. Between the bodice and the dress is an elastic banding that is ruched creating not only shape for the dress but creates another texture. At the back of the dress there are spaghetti straps and a tie at the neck so the dress will remain secure. Everything about this dress is natural and not at all formal feeling at all.

Since the top of this dress is so detailed you will want to wear simple earrings and perhaps a bracelet or two. Do not go heavy with your jewelry. In terms of footwear a sandal like the model is wearing will look great. If you want a shoe with some height stick with a simple nude heel or wedge.

A.L.C. Luca Maxi Skirt As Seen Worn By Gwen Stefani

Recently singer/designer Gwen Stefani was seen wearing the A.L.C. Luca Maxi Skirt while in Cannes with her family. This 100% Silk maxi skirt is feminine and romantic, two of the hottest Summer 2011 trends. The skirt has an abstract watercolor  floral print over large portions of it but is not too busy and distracting at all. An asymmetrical hem allows the skirt to flow freely and billows nicely with every step.  This skirt can be worn with a simple solid top or with a slightly detailed one like in the model below. The skirt looks great as it but you can always add a belt if you prefer. Since the skirt is so long, there is a chance that your shoes will not be seen, especially if you are petite. You can wear sandals, wedges, or heels with the skirt  and there are so many colors from the skirt you can pick up from and carry to your shoes.

Parker Cami Long Dress A Gorgeous Watercolor Maxi Dress

Parker is a brand that is versatile.

Parker clothing is the go to brand if you are looking for something appropriate for work as well as for a night out. You can wear a Parker dress to work and be dressed appropriately as well as wear that same dress out afterwards and not look like you just came from the office. The Parker Cami Long Dress is the perfect example of the style that Parker wants to put out. The dress is sexy and colorful, appropriate for a casual fun time. Yet,  at the same time,  the cut is not revealing or inappropriate for the workplace.  The watercolor effect of the pattern is not distracting for the office.

Pair the Parker Cami Long Dress with a pair of heels or wedges and wear a feminine cardigan at work, not to reveal too much skin. After work, simply remove the cardigan to show off the great racerback detail of the dress. The smocked elastic waist of the dress will flatter your figure and the ruffles at the trim add a great soft touch. The watercolor floral print in pink, purple, and green reminds me of a Monet painting. This really is a versatile summer dress that you will get a lot of wear out of.

Simple and Fashionable White Dresses From ASOS

No Comments 12 April 2011

A white dress is the perfect summer staple for your wardrobe. With the exception of a wedding there really are no restrictions as to where you can wear this color. There are so many different styles of white dresses from ASOS and the best part is that they are affordable, with most being less than $100.

A white dress does have a few downfalls that you have to be aware of. You must put careful consideration into your undergarments with a white dress since they most likely will show through.  Be aware of the weather making sure to have an umbrella or a coat to throw on when it rains so you do not expose yourself if you get wet.  A white dress will show all dirt and stains so avoid wearing white if you are going to be in a dusty or dirty setting. Be prepared to have to launder your white dress after every wear.  As long as you think ahead though you can wear a white dress and look fabulous doing so. There are many perks to white as well : it shows off so well against a tan, it makes you look pure and innocent, and it complements all skin tones.

The TFNC 60′s Style Lace A-Line Mini Dress is a modern dress with a vintage feel to it. The elbow length sleeves are made up of a mod looking lace pattern and the back is open and exposed so this is not a dress to wear if you can not go without a bra. This is a dress that is perfect to wear for drinks or dinner with friends.

A casual white dress perfect for brunch or weekend errands is the Lipsy Dress With Frill Front And Tiered Hem. This dress is loose fitting and frilly so it is great for those scorching hot days when you try to have the least amount of fabric touching you. The mesh flower embroidered neckline and the two tiers of ruffles at the bottom give this dress a soft and feminine feel and look to it.

You can never go wrong with a maxi dress. The Oasis Cutwork Halter Maxi is a deep v neck halter dress with cutout detailing along the front and skirt part of the dress. A shirred waist complements and enhances your figure.

I love the one shoulder look for dresses, especially when the one shoulder is dramatic. The Lipsy Structured Dress With One Shoulder is the perfect dress for an evening event. It has a strong frilly shoulder to draw attention and the ruched panel on the opposite side of the waist creates great balance for the dress.

Rebecca Taylor Summer 2011 Mini, Midi, and Maxi Dresses

2 Comments 04 April 2011

Rebecca Taylor is a New Zealand born fashion designer who grew up  in what she calls a fairy-tale village. This ethereal village has influenced her immensely because all of her clothing has a fairy tale feel to it. Rebecca Taylor dresses in particular,  have a feminine fit and feel to them making every woman feel their best when wearing them. Rebecca has a great eye for the smallest of details so when you wear her clothes you can be sure that all pleats, panels, ruffles, and hems are carefully placed to enhance the shape of a woman and not just look great esthetically.

The Rebecca Taylor Pom Pom Halter Dress is floral midi dress, with its bottom hem hitting the  upper middle calf of your legs. This is a very feminine dress with a ruffle overlay at the top of the dress and an elastic belt at the waist. Though this is a halter dress, the string is detachable so you can wear the dress strapless if you  prefer. I love that this dress has hip pockets, that is something that is unusual with most dresses.

Another great Midi dress is the Rebecca Taylor Nouveau Ballet Dress. The top half of the Nouveau dress V neck silk and is a jacquard tulip pattern. Below the waist this dress is the same tulip pattern and color but is a smooth silk. The smocked bodice and ruched waist allow  the dress to accentuate your body shape.

Continuing with the floral prints but in a different length is the Rebecca Taylor Rose Print Gown.  The dress is a silk-chiffon blend maxi dress that has asymmetrical ruffles at the V Neck bodice. A smocked waist and back panel allow this dress to be a bit fitted in those parts which in turn gives the dress a great shape that is very feminine.

Though it is not a floral dress, the Rebecca Taylor Grecian Strapless Dress is just as feminine and colorful as the previous dresses. I love the ruched sweetheart neckline, the  pintucking at the front of the dress, and the hip pockets. My favorite part of this mini dress is the bright fuchsia color that will look great on so many skin tones.

Rebecca Taylor truly is a must go to brand for a dress that is feminine, ethereal, and fits well. I am very excited to see what Rebecca has in store for the future in terms of her clothing.

Maxi Dresses and Skirts for Spring 2011

1 Comment 17 February 2011

The big trend for skirts and dresses for this Spring and Summer 2011 and beyond are  wide bottoms and with  floor length hems. This style of dress or skirt is usually called  maxi for the Latin word maximus, as in the maximum length a skirt can go.  These Maxi skirts and dresses are form fitting at the top and loose, flowing and wide at the bottom.  The look is very bohemian and was really popular starting in the1970s. Yet,  it has never fully disappeared from the fashion spotlight . The best thing about maxi skirts and dresses is their ability to work for all body types and can look good with just about any shape and size.  Another great detail about Maxis are the fabrics they are made from.  The fabrics are light weight and tend to be thin and airy making it perfect for the summer since they will not stick to you or make you hot despite the length.

With Maxi dresses and skirts there tends to be a wide selection of style and designs available to choose from. Since they are usually bohemian in style they will usually be a casual item, with lots of prints and flowers.    Though, this is not always the case with a lot of maxi skirts and dresses are designed with a more dressed up look that you can wear out at night to a dinner or a date.   In most parts though the maxi dress will remain a summer casual dress or skirt that are great for throwing on over a bathing suit after  a day at the pool as well as for a casual day of shopping or brunch with friends.

We love this fashion trend. The Maxi design and style is so simplistic and classic.  They are the epitome of a casual summer day. They pair well with sandals and large summer hats.  This is a look that has lasted years and will continue to do so allowing you greater longevity for your wardrobe.

A good example of a casual Maxi dress is the Juicy Couture Ditzy Garden Patchwork Maxi Dress.  As you can see this maxi dress is the typical bohemian style. Lots of patterns and flowers that are typical of the maxi dress.

Not all Maxi dresses are casual though. There are plenty of more formal dresses that can be worn at night when you are dressing up. One of my favorite of these dresses is the Holding Court Maxi Dress by Aryn K . This 100% silk dress has detailed pleating at the bust area and a flowing skirt that billows as you move.

Maxi skirts are a popular choice as well to wear. These skirts can be paired with a snugger fitting top to balance out the wider bottom of the skirt. A favorite Maxi Skirt of mine actually has multiple uses because you can wear it as a skirt as pictured below OR you can pull the skirt up all the way to make it a dress if you choose. The
Splendid Heather Maxi Tube Skirt / Dress has a fold over waistband so all you need to do is unfold it and pull it up.
