Young Fabulous & Broke Sydney Silk Jumpsuit in Black Ombre

No Comments 29 June 2011

Jumpsuits are everywhere this season. They can be found in practically every color and material so finding the right one for you should not be too hard.

One of my favorite jumpsuits that I have seen is the Young Fabulous & Broke Sydney Ombre Jumpsuit. This silk strapless jumpsuit is dyed perfectly in a black ombre. This jumpsuit has elastic banding at the top hem to keep it securely in place. The top part fits you loosely before becoming more fitted again at the elasticized waistband. The legs of this jumpsuit are super wide, 38 inches to be exact.

Most ombre dyed clothing tends to have gradation across the entire piece but the Young Fabulous & Broke
Sydney Ombre Jumpsuit has the majority of the ombre occurring exclusively at its bottom half The bottom of the jumpsuit is black and as it moves up to the waist gradation from black to dark grey to light grey occurs. The top half of the jumpsuit is the same light grey that occurs at the waist.

Since the legs are so wide on this jumpsuit your footwear will not be too visible so there is no need to pick a heavily detailed shoe since it is mainly the toe area of the shoe that will actually be seen.

ASOS Tuxedo Jumpsuit With Cut Out Back

The ASOS Tuxedo Jumpsuit With Cut Out Back is a must have for this summer.

Ordinarily when you hear tuxedo your first thoughts are a formal masculine suit worn by a man but the ASOS Tuxedo Jumpsuit With Cut Out Back is so far from that image. This long pants sleeveless one piece jumpsuit is sexy, stylish, and as feminine as can be. A notch lapel and sash waist tie are elements that resemble a “real” tuxedo but other than that this really does not resemble a tuxedo at all. The deep V neck front and cut out back shows off skin without going overboard. A somewhat fitted top and wide leg pants create a great balance and the sash at the waist will show off your figure.

Since the entire jumpsuit is all black this is a time to experiment with color. Through on a bright red pair of heels like the model is wearing, or take a risk and buy those bright almost neon shoes you have been eying. Since this jumpsuit has a deep V neck you can wear a bold necklace or try layering multiple necklaces together. If you want to wear a simple necklace you can make a statement with a big pair of earrings.

There are certain colors that truly belong together.

While all colors look good when paired with white, there is something about a great shade of blue  with white that draws me to this mix of colors. Blue and white reminds me of summer, it could be the reminders of sand and sea or the white caps on the ocean waves. I am not exactly sure what it is but all I know is that I always have my eyes open and my wallet ready for a great blue and white print outfit.

The Diane von Furstenberg Jhumpa Embellished Romper is a dressed up romper that resembles a dress more than a typical romper. This silk romper has a wrap detail at the split side waist similar to the iconic DVF wrap dresses. It also has pockets at the sides which are streamlined and not bulky at all so they will not make you appear to have wide hips. Beaded and draped overlay also add to making this a more formal romper and not an everyday one.  A gathered elastic waist makes this romper comfortable to wear in warm weather without feeling too constricted.

The Alice + Olivia Bree One Shoulder Dress is a not so much of a print dress but more of a ombre watercolor effect dress. The center of the dress has a dark purple/blue color and gradually the color gets lighter as it gets to the edges. The one shoulder has bias pleats both front and back and draping at the wrap skirt. This is a figure flattering dress that you should get a lot of use out of. Since this dress is one shoulder and the shoulder comes up high on the neck, you should skip a necklace since it will interfere. Wear whatever earrings you prefer and for bracelets, wear more on the left wrist to balance out the strong right shoulder.

Another great blue and white dress is the Free People Watercolor Dress. This dress, while called a watercolor dress, is more of a soft print than a traditional watercolor effect. This Free People dress is the most casual of the dresses mentioned and would be great to wear for an afternoon event, or a low key evening one. The sweetheart neckline make this a very soft and feminine dress. The ruching at both the bodice and waist will flatter your figure. The asymmetrical hemline and unfinished edges make this a modern and unique dress. The best feature of the dress though is that removable grosgrain straps so you can wear the dress with or without straps depending on your comfort level.

Print clothing can be  a great way to incorporate many colors into your wardrobe.

Wearing a vivid print pattern will immediately liven up your outfit and draw much attention your way. Sometimes though, these patterns may be a bit much for certain occasions but there is an easy solution, watercolor prints. Water color prints tend to be a bit more muted in terms of color intensity. Another quality of water color prints is that the lines and shapes are softer, not as harsh as a tradition print. Since these prints are softer in color, they are perfect for spring and summer, though you will most likely have to put them away come fall since they are too summery.

The Shoshanna Sweetheart Strapless Dress is a great dress for spring and summer. This is a very feminine dress and is perfect for an afternoon or evening event. Made of silk-chiffon, this delicate sweetheart neckline dress with boning at the bodice has beautiful shades of pink, yellow, and green. A ruched waist, pleating throughout, and a bias seams make this dress figure flattering and ladylike. A feminine sandal will make this outfit complete though you can wear a heel or flat if you prefer. Because of all the great colors in the dress you should have no problems finding the perfect colorful shoe to wear or you can stick with a neutral shoe if you prefer.

The Twenty8Twelve Ava Romper is a very colorful romper with practically every color from the rainbow, in a muted palette. This long sleeve top with shorts bottom romper has a drawstring elastic waist and small fold-over collar. Hidden snap buttons make this romper seamless and streamlined. The cuffs of the sleeves have snaps on them allowing you to push the sleeves up to 3/4 length if you choose without worrying of wrinkling them sleeves or having them fall down to full length. In cooler weather you can wear the sleeve all the way down. You can wear this romper with practically any warm weather shoe, a flat, gladiator sandal, or heel. If you have a shoe in a color you can pull from the romper go ahead, but if not stick with a neutral or a brown shoe.

The Rebecca Taylor Watercolor Flower Camisole is a great everyday shirt that is casual but not too informal. This exposed shoulder shirt has soft watercolor floral patterns on it in shades of green, peach, blue, and pink. The ruched scoop neckline makes this a very flattering shirt. The cut out shoulders with ties give the shirt a bit of a sexy edge to it. The shirttail hem makes this shirt appropriate to wear untucked. You can wear this shirt with shorts or jeans. Pair your outfit with a pair of wedges and you are ready to go on with your day.

All of these watercolor clothes are perfect for any spring or summer activity and there are plenty more other great prints out there as well.

Summer 2011 Jumpsuits with Full Length Legs

A full length leg jumpsuit is a must have for Summer 2011. These one piece outfits make getting dressed easy because it is a complete outfit. This is a good choice when you want full coverage but do not want to wear a dress. They are especially great for a windy day because you do not have to worry about the wind blowing up your skirt exposing yourself for all to see. There are so many choices for these one piece outfits. You can find very casual ones  as well as jumpsuits  appropriate for a formal occasion. Many of these one piece outfits are draped and embellished so as they appear as a dress instead of pants.

The 1970s is when jumpsuits were at their height of popularity so it is no surprise that in 2011 when the 70s look has made  a comeback that the jumpsuit would be a part of that revival. The Rachel Pally Wide Leg Jumpsuit is a simple and basic jumpsuit that has super wide (56″) leg openings. The jumpsuit is strapless which is quite popular. There is some ruching at the sides to give it some dimension. Since this is solid black you will want to brighten it up with your shoes, jewelry, or a belt.

The Thakoon Button Front Long Jumpsuit is a more formal jumpsuit that can be worn at night when you dress up. This silk blush one piece jumpsuit features a jacquard floral pattern and a V neck. A belt at the pleated waist and pintucking make this a figure flattering outfit. The legs are wide so you will want to wear a shoe that has height to it.

Jumpsuits are not just for the weekend, there are plenty of them appropriate for the office. The Diane von Furstenberg is one of these work appropriate suits. The Masanori is a long sleeve capri pant jumpsuit that has a vivid all over pattern that is not distracting. Wear this with a pair of neutral wedge sandals or heels and your outfit is complete.

If you want to wear a fashion forward non traditional jumpsuit, the Elise Overland Leather Capri Jumpsuit is a great choice. This jumpsuit has a deep v neck plunge to the naval and is very form fitting. While this is a solid black, you do not want to add too much color with your accessories because the jumpsuit is so detailed and you would take away from it by adding too much.

A jumpsuit is a bit intimidating if you are not accustomed to wearing one but once you get used to the idea of wearing a one piece I guarantee you will come looking for another one. Also remember that there are plenty of short style rompers that will give you a similar look but may be more comfortable to wear in hotter weather.

Stella McCartney Fruit Print Dresses and Jumpsuits Spring Summer 2011

No Comments 24 March 2011

For the Spring 2011 Stella McCartney featured a theme of fruit and now these fruit print frocks have moved from the runway to the stores and hopefully to your closet. I love these dresses and jumpsuits because to me one of the biggest associations I have with this time of year is fresh fruit off the trees or picked from the garden and just seeing these great outfits makes me think of how great fresh picked fruit tastes.  All of the fruit print clothing from Stella McCartney is of citrus though some is more colorful and vivid than others so you have the choice of being subtle or drawing attention to yourself.

My favorite of the fruit print clothes are the ones that are with bright fruit images. There is a halterneck dress that is long and daring. This dress has two waist high slits in the front of the dress that expose your entire leg and thigh when walking or with a strong breeze. If so much leg exposure is not your thing, there is a above the knee dress that has small side slits. Both of these dresses have oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes on it.

If you would rather wear something more delicate in material and do not want the citrus to “scream” there are a few Stella McCartney pieces that fit this criteria. There is a blue silk jumpsuit with slits thigh high on the front of the leg, a key hole cutout at the top front of the jumpsuit and a cutout at the back. There is also a dress in the same blue citrus print that is silk as well, long sleeve and pleated. If you like silk and perhaps want something white there is a great sleeveless silk dress that is long, has slits and pleats at the skirt areas as well as cut outs on the sides and back of the dress.

Jumpsuits and Rompers

70s Inspired Rompers and Jumpsuits for Spring 2011

1 Comment 12 March 2011

When I think of a romper and jumpsuits I think about the 70s and 80s when they were at their height of popularity. Television shows like Three’s Company and Charlie’s Angels often had their stars wearing a romper or a jumpsuit. These fashions carried over into the 80s and characters from Dynasty and Falcon Crest worn belted jumpsuits with big shoulders. By the mid to late 80s the jumpsuit and romper trend seemed to go away with the exception of one piece rompers for young girls.   While the jumpsuit and romper never fully went away there was a long period of time when they were few and far between. Now though, in 2011, these jumpsuits and rompers seem to be making a comeback.

The first big sign for me that jumpsuits and romper were on the way back into fashion was when I started seeing celebrities like Nicole Richie, Rhianna , and Sarah Jessica Parker photographed in one more and more frequently.  I started paying attention for more of these styles to be showcased and over time the searches became easier and easier to find. I am not saying that jumpsuits and rompers are taking over as the “IT” item but they are becoming more accessible to buy.

The Halston Heritage  Boatneck Jumpsuit reminds me of something out of Sex And The City and understandably so since the creative director of Halston Heritage is Sarah Jessica Parker. This is a jumpsuit that can be worn at night and would be perfect at dinner by the ocean.
