Boulee Asymmetrical and Color Block Dresses For 2011

No Comments 29 June 2011

Boulee is the brainchild of Debbie Morad who wanted to create clothing that was effortless and chic. Debbie created this line due to frustration with her own wardrobe. Boulee is known for interesting cutouts in dresses as well as bright vibrant colors.

The Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress is a asymmetrical dress with a deep cut in the fabric of the one shoulder strap creating a double strap. To balance out the cut out on the left shoulder is a cut out at the waist on the right side of this dress. This dress is available in so many colors including : Black, White, Fuschia, Red, and many shades of Blue.

Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress in many colors

The Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress is simple yet detailed so you will want to keep this in mind when accessorizing. You will want to wear a simple necklace or no necklace at all so you do not take away from the detailing of the cut out strap. Simple earrings as well as suggested. In terms of shoes, if wearing a black or white dress you can keep it classic with a black shoe or add any color that you wish. In terms of patterns on shoes a basic one is fine but if the pattern is detailed and intricate you want to make sure that it does not distract from the dress. If you wear a colorful Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress you can match the color, wear black, or add another bold color shoe to create a color block look. The Ciara dress also comes in just as many colors in a single long sleeve version if you prefer a slightly different style of this dress.

If you are a not a fan of asymmetrical cut outs on a dress but still want something bright, vibrant, and a show stopper the Boulee Serena Dress fits these requirements. The Serena Dress has a simple silhouette making it a dress to wear for so many occasions. The top of the dress has boning in it which provides shape and support. The bottom half of the dress hugs the body and is quite short. Not all of the drama for the dress is in the front though, the back of the dress has an exposed zipper that is outlined in black.

There are a few versions of this dress, some are a solid color like red or blue and others are color blocked. The solid dress is a great starting point to build an outfit on. Wear the solid dress with a wide belt in black or another color to wear the dress in a more casual dressed down look. If you are wanting to stand out a little more then there are some great color contrasting dresses. Some of the color combinations for these dresses are pink and purple and a light and dark orange combination. My favorite though is the grey and black color contrasting dress. This dress has a grey base and a black top with grey triangle accents at the waist. Just like the other signature Serena dresses, this has the exposed black zipper in the back. The color contrasting combinations for these dresses seem to be a bit more casual than the solid versions but they can be paired with the right shoes or accessories to make appropriate for more formal events.

Since this is a strapless dress you can wear it as is in the summer or when the weather cools down, wear a cardigan or light weight jacket over the dress. The colors of the dresses are all great for summer and most are on trend for fall 2011.

There are certain colors that truly belong together.

While all colors look good when paired with white, there is something about a great shade of blue  with white that draws me to this mix of colors. Blue and white reminds me of summer, it could be the reminders of sand and sea or the white caps on the ocean waves. I am not exactly sure what it is but all I know is that I always have my eyes open and my wallet ready for a great blue and white print outfit.

The Diane von Furstenberg Jhumpa Embellished Romper is a dressed up romper that resembles a dress more than a typical romper. This silk romper has a wrap detail at the split side waist similar to the iconic DVF wrap dresses. It also has pockets at the sides which are streamlined and not bulky at all so they will not make you appear to have wide hips. Beaded and draped overlay also add to making this a more formal romper and not an everyday one.  A gathered elastic waist makes this romper comfortable to wear in warm weather without feeling too constricted.

The Alice + Olivia Bree One Shoulder Dress is a not so much of a print dress but more of a ombre watercolor effect dress. The center of the dress has a dark purple/blue color and gradually the color gets lighter as it gets to the edges. The one shoulder has bias pleats both front and back and draping at the wrap skirt. This is a figure flattering dress that you should get a lot of use out of. Since this dress is one shoulder and the shoulder comes up high on the neck, you should skip a necklace since it will interfere. Wear whatever earrings you prefer and for bracelets, wear more on the left wrist to balance out the strong right shoulder.

Another great blue and white dress is the Free People Watercolor Dress. This dress, while called a watercolor dress, is more of a soft print than a traditional watercolor effect. This Free People dress is the most casual of the dresses mentioned and would be great to wear for an afternoon event, or a low key evening one. The sweetheart neckline make this a very soft and feminine dress. The ruching at both the bodice and waist will flatter your figure. The asymmetrical hemline and unfinished edges make this a modern and unique dress. The best feature of the dress though is that removable grosgrain straps so you can wear the dress with or without straps depending on your comfort level.

Oasis Floral One Shoulder Draped Dress

Floral prints are a big trend right now.

While most clothing with a floral print is done in a traditional manner like soft feminine all over flowers, the Oasis Floral One Shoulder Draped Dress takes a different approach. Heavily influenced by Asian culture, this dress has bold flowers native to the Eastern World.  An asymmetrical neckline with single draped shoulder, the Oasis dress has strong vivid colors on the front and back of the dress. The palette for the dress is a great shade of pink with darker pinks, red, browns, and yellow detailing. The dress itself is a fitted mini dress that is mid thigh length. With a fitted bottom and a draped top, this dress is perfectly balanced and will flatter your figure.

Since this dress is quite colorful there are so many options for footwear. You can find a shoe that matches one of the many colors from the dress or you can keep it simple with a neutral colored shoe. In terms of style of shoe, a heel is the most ideal though a soft and feminine style wedge would be great as well.  For jewelry, if you want to wear a necklace keep it to a simple one because you do not want to compete with the detailing at the neck area. For bracelets and rings, wear more of it on the left side to balance out the draping on the right shoulder.

This dress is perfect to wear to an afternoon or evening wedding. It also would be great to wear at night for dinner with friends or a party.

Fun and Flirty One Shoulder Dresses For Spring and Summer 2011

With temperatures going up, it is time to rearrange your closet and put those long sleeve heavy dresses away for the next 6 or so months. While I am sure that you have some great clothing that you have rediscovered hiding in the back of the closet to wear again, I am also quite sure that you will want to buy a few new items, specifically dresses to wear as soon as it warms up a bit.

When it is hot out, the thought of wearing anything with sleeves is unappealing and a strapless  dress can mean you will have to spend your time constantly pulling it up. A great solution for these problems is to wear a fun and flirty one shoulder dress. These type of dresses can range from a simple strap on one shoulder to a loose and flowing short sleeve single shoulder. There are so many great dresses ranging from casual everyday ones to more formal dresses appropriate for an evening event or party.

Yellow is a true summer color. It is bright and puts an instant smile on your face. It is also currently a must have nail polish color for spring and summer 2011. The Mara Hoffman Twist One Shoulder Dress is a light weight silk above the knee dress that is ruched at the bodice and has a twisted overlay from the center of the chest that goes over your left shoulder to the back of the dress.

A big trend right now is floral prints and the ASOS Floral One Shoulder Dress is lightweight, airy, and whimsical. This dress is asymmetrical and has a dip hemline to the back of the dress. As you walk the dress billows.

Another hit for spring and summer is anything colorblocked. The ASOS Pleated Color Block Dress is a bright pink and orange dress with vertical pleats and is a trapeze style dress. There are wide color block panels across the dress and a small single strap on the  right shoulder.

Ruffles are so ladylike and feminine. The Halston Heritage Ruffle Chiffon Cocktail Dress in Neptune Blue or Rose Gold Pink are light and airy dresses with tiers of ruffles and asymmetrical neckline.

A dress that can be worn both day and night is the camilla and marc Hillside Stripe Dress. I love that the stripes go in so many different directions. The skirt part of the dress is structured circle which makes it so unique. An elastic waist and draping at the shoulder make this figure flattering.

No matter the occasion there is a great single shoulder dress perfect for any summer event you will be attending.

Whenever I think of glamorous 70s fashions I always think of the one shoulder dress. I just envision dresses with a ruffled shoulder, or a one sleeve dress, or some sort of other dramatic shoulder.Halston made this Hippie/Boho Grecian look popular in the mid/late 70s and it lasted through the very beginnings of the 80s. Sarah Jessica Parker, the creative director of Halston Heritage has revived this look and now in 2011 you can wear great updated one shoulder dresses. My favorite of these is Halston Heritage Shoulder Knot Dress. This dress is simple, effortless, but nonetheless elegant. This dress is more of a modern Grecian than Hippie.

Jenny Packham is most known for her Bridal Gowns but there are some great ready to wear dresses as well. The Jenny Packham Snow/Black One Shoulder Maxi Dressicon is a great dress with a gorgeous black bow at the left shoulder that cascades down the back of the dress to the waist where it wraps back to the front creating a waist belt.

Not all white dresses are stark white. In fact the David Meister One Shoulder Metallic Matelassé Gown icon is a shimmering and sparkling matelassé dress.

Marchesa is a designer that many of the top celebrities flock to when they are in the need for a showstopping dress. The
Notte by MARCHESA One Shoulder Column Gown with Flower
is a show stopper and easily could be worn at a red carpet event but instead it is available for all.

Badgley Mischka is another brand that celebrities often wear. The Badgley Mischka – Mark James One Shoulder Dress is a dress that is available to the public. This dress is a bit less formal than the previous ones but it is still elegant.

All of these white dresses are a great choice for a formal summer party. You could even wear any of the dresses as a bridal dress if you choose. If you like the style of any of the dresses and are unsure about the color, there are a few that do come in other colors.
