Fall and Winter are a time when bright and vibrant colors disappear from nature and things begin to look drab and gloomy. One way to bring back color into your world is with clothing. One of my favorite articles of clothes are wrap dresses and for the Fall / Winter season ASOS has some really great colorful wrap dresses to choose from. The great hing about these dresses is that for the msot part all of them are less that $75

The ASOS Wrap Dress With Bow Detail comes in red, navy, and nude and is a must have dress.  Mini in length with a deep V-neckline, you can wear this dress to work or out at night though you may want to wear a camisole under the dress for work due to the V-neck. The sleeves of the dress are slim and elbow length so they will not interfere when using your arms with typing or any other activity. The cross waist tie with oversized  bow detail is very slimming on the waist line. Another detail that makes this a very figure flattering dress is the shirred waist in the back of this dress.

Also with a bow is the ASOS Wrap Dress with Tie Waist which is available in Blue, Mustard, and Copper. This dress has a tulip skirt, making this dress very different ( in a good way) from most other wrap dresses. I love the wrap belt which allows you to tie the dress so the bow is either on the side or in the middle of the dress. The dress is most likely not going to be work appropriate but you can get much use from the dress by wearing it out at night.

The ASOS Wrap Pencil Dress with Fitted Skirt is a more conservative dress so it is definitely work appropriate but it also is sexy so you will not look boring. You can definitely wear it for occasions not work related as well. There is a v-neckline but it is not as deep and plunging though if you think you are exposing too much cleavage, try a camisole or tank top underneath this dress. The dress is available in peacock, black, orange, or purple. I love all of the colors for this dress and you can not go wrong with any of them.

Though pricier than the other wrap dresses, the ASOS REVIVE Sequin Wrap Front Mini Dress is a stunning wrap dress that is perfect for any party, including holiday parties that are just around the corner. No matter the occasion,a wrap dress is the answer. They are figure flattering and sexy but many are also conservative enough to wear in professional settings as well. Color Blocking has been around for decades but it really was not until Spring 2011 that it has really taken off. If you remember, most of the colors used for this look have been quite bright and bold but now for Fall 2011, the colors are are deeper and darker shades. There are lots of reds, browns, earthy, and jewel tone colors.

While you can easily take a top and wear it with a different color bottom and perhaps a third color belt or scarf there are many great items that are also color blocked already. One of the best ways to find these items is in dresses. There are so many great color blocked dresses ranging from casual to more formal.

One of the first dresses that caught my eye was the Thread Social Colorblock Turtleneck Dress. This dress had a very 1960s mod look to it. This long sleeve dropwaist dress has a grey cotton turtleneck top and a colorblock silk skirt. While the dress may be a little to short to wear for work, this is a great dress to wear for a get together with friends.

If you are wanting a great color block dress that is more appropriate for work, there are plenty of those to choose from. There are two in particular that I love a lot. The first is the Joseph Van Colorblock Dress. This dress is a long sleeve lined crepe dress. The top of the dress is white with red sleeves and the skirt part is a solid black. The length is office appropriate and it is perfect to wear for an after work get together as well. Wear this dress with a pair or black or red heels and your outfit is complete.

The other dress that grabs my attention is the Alice + Olivia Short Chloe Coloblock Dress. This dress is a gorgeous brown and cream dress and comes with a detachable narrow gold belt. This is a great dress that is comfortable as well as fashionable.

Moving on to dresses that are perfect to an evening party or formal get together the choices for color block dresses are practically endless. One of my favorite is  the Herve Leger Colorblock Dress.  Like most of the other great Herve Leger dresses, this is a form fitting banded dress. A gorgeous shade of green with blue and black, this dress will have all eyes on you this holiday season or whenever you wear it.

Another great colorblock dress that will show off your figure is the Pencey Colorblock Cutout Dress. This dress is available in pink/ burgundy (pictured) as well as blue/aqua. While both are great color combinations, the pink and burgundy dress is a bit more fall like. Keep in mind you will have to not be self conscious when wearing this dress because of the exposure at the waist.

Though not as form fitting, but equally if not more gorgeous than the previous two dresses, the Matthew Williamson Paneled Mini Dress is a great colorblock dress. This red, pink, and black dress has a array of materials and textures on this dress. You will definitely get a lot of attention when wearing this dress.

One of the most popular trends at the moment is the vintage Bohemian chic look and the brand Jen’s  Pirate Booty is one of the leader’s in this fashion trend. You can wear the tops, tunics,  and shorter dresses with an equally boho chic bottom or even with a pair of jeans to mix up your styles. The majority of the Jen’s Pirate Booty clothing are simple solid colors and the large selection of long Maxi dresses are no exception. The Premlata Tube Dress in River Blue or Black is a great staple dress to own. You can add colors with your shoes or accessories and will look great with a fitted waist length or cropped jacket over the dress when the weather cools down making this a year round dress to wear.  If you want a more free flowing dress but still want to keep it floor length, the Margarita dress that comes in many solid colors as well as tie-dye patterns is a great choice. This too can be worn year round with a jacket or sweater thrown on over the dress in cool weather.

Hello again Fashionista’s …as August winds down I would like to re-introduce to you  some of the up-and coming designers. Korto Momulo  born in Liberia West Africa  is one of those rising stars. She produces some of the most chic women wear I have seen in years. Her ability to embrace color and diversity gives  her clothes a life of their own .  Being able to create clothes that show of the female frame in a sexy ..chic way  gives me goose bumps.  Of course we were all able to see her in action on Project Runway season 5.   Korto Momolu presented her Spring 2009 collection at Bryant Park for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week , and for Bet’s  Rip The Runway. Korto formed a partnership with Dillard’s Inc. to design a collection of handbags and jewelry that are to die for. She is truly a designer to watch out for in the future.

    I love the beautiful green color and how it frames the female shape.. brilliant!

Celebrity stylist, entrepreneur, author,  designer, mom Rachel Zoe is a fashion leader. Known for styling celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, and Jennifer Garner amongst others,  Rachel knows fashion like the back of your own hand. She dresses herself and others impeccably and often her picks are red carpet best dressed dresses. The clothing choices are trend and are often risk taking. Rachel Zoe is  ahead of the pack when it comes to picking the “next big thing”.

Besides helping out celebrities she helps out everyday women by contributing to Piperlime with her footwear and handbag picks. Boho Chic

A large percentage of the collection can be classified as Boho-Chic. There are plenty of long sleeve silk – chiffon Maxi Dresses  with animal print pattern on them.  The dresses are all designed to be worn either on or off the shoulder and have sheer elasticized sleeves so you can wear them full length or push them up if you prefer. You can wear a belt to add so more detailing to the dresses or leave them as is. You will want to wear some sort of shoe or boot with these dresses because of the length. If you like the patterns of these dresses but not a fan of Maxi Dresses there are some great peasant blouses in the same animal prints that are also designed to be worn off or on the shoulder.

Faux Fur

If you have even watched The Rachel Zoe Project or even pay attention to fashion / gossip magazines you will be aware that fur, in particular faux fur is a favorite of Rachel’s. For her fashion collection there is a wide selection of jackets and vest that have fur on them.  One of the common features with all of the coats and vest is that they all have some sort of dramatic collar, some have a over-sized fold-over collar and others are stand up ones. The colors for them coats / vests are neutral and can easily be worn over other Rachel Zoe clothing  or any other brand.

If you are in search of a lightweight, ultra-feminine dress with ruffles dress to wear this summer then the Club Monaco Andrea Dress is the answer.

The Club Monaco Andrea  Dress is a scoop neck  dress in a lightweight wrinkled cotton voile and has lace and pintucking  throughout the dress. There is a 4 button closure at the top of the dress so you can wear the dress buttoned up to whatever degree you would like to do so.  A drawstring at the neck allows you to wear the dress as tight or as loose as you would like and the drawstring at the drop waist creates a definition in the dress. The Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress is a asymmetrical dress with a deep cut in the fabric of the one shoulder strap creating a double strap. To balance out the cut out on the left shoulder is a cut out at the waist on the right side of this dress. Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress in many colors

The Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress is simple yet detailed so you will want to keep this in mind when accessorizing. You will want to wear a simple necklace or no necklace at all so you do not take away from the detailing of the cut out strap. Simple earrings as well as suggested. In terms of shoes, if wearing a black or white dress you can keep it classic with a black shoe or add any color that you wish. In terms of patterns on shoes a basic one is fine but if the pattern is detailed and intricate you want to make sure that it does not distract from the dress. If you wear a colorful Boulee Ciara Sleeveless Dress you can match the color, wear black, or add another bold color shoe to create a color block look. The Ciara dress also comes in just as many colors in a single long sleeve version if you prefer a slightly different style of this dress.

If you are a not a fan of asymmetrical cut outs on a dress but still want something bright, vibrant, and a show stopper the Boulee Serena Dress fits these requirements. The Serena Dress has a simple silhouette making it a dress to wear for so many occasions. The top of the dress has boning in it which provides shape and support. The bottom half of the dress hugs the body and is quite short. Not all of the drama for the dress is in the front though, the back of the dress has an exposed zipper that is outlined in black.

There are a few versions of this dress, some are a solid color like red or blue and others are color blocked. The solid dress is a great starting point to build an outfit on. Wear the solid dress with a wide belt in black or another color to wear the dress in a more casual dressed down look. If you are wanting to stand out a little more then there are some great color contrasting dresses. Some of the color combinations for these dresses are pink and purple and a light and dark orange combination. My favorite though is the grey and black color contrasting dress. This dress has a grey base and a black top with grey triangle accents at the waist. Just like the other signature Serena dresses, this has the exposed black zipper in the back. The color contrasting combinations for these dresses seem to be a bit more casual than the solid versions but they can be paired with the right shoes or accessories to make appropriate for more formal events.
