Gypsy: (n) somebody who has a nomadic or unconventional lifestyle

One of the most popular trends at the moment is the vintage Bohemian chic look and the brand Jen’s  Pirate Booty is one of the leader’s in this fashion trend. Unlike other brands that may have a few pieces of a collection with a Boho Chic feel or just the current season done that way, Jen’s Pirate Booty has devoted their entire design aesthetic and principal to encompassing this look and feel.

Jen’s Pirate Booty can be described as a bit of gypsy meets bohemian meets pirate. The designer, Jen Rossi, travels the world to gather materials and design ideas that portray the nomadic free spirit lifestyle. Jen takes all of these ideas and fuses them with a west coast California vibe making them fashionably, trendy, and most importantly laid back and chic.

You will find a wide array of clothing with this brand. Cotton and sheer cotton gauze are popular materials used for the clothing though you will also see plenty of lace and satin polyester used as well. Loose fits,  flutter sleeves, ruffles, and cinched waists are perfect examples of finding gypsy boho pirate looks. You can wear the tops, tunics,  and shorter dresses with an equally boho chic bottom or even with a pair of jeans to mix up your styles. For the longer full length dresses they will look great with a pair of cowboy boots, sandals, or whatever footwear you feel is appropriate.

The majority of the Jen’s Pirate Booty clothing are simple solid colors and the large selection of long Maxi dresses are no exception. The Premlata Tube Dress in River Blue or Black is a great staple dress to own. You can add colors with your shoes or accessories and will look great with a fitted waist length or cropped jacket over the dress when the weather cools down making this a year round dress to wear.  If you want a more free flowing dress but still want to keep it floor length, the Margarita dress that comes in many solid colors as well as tie-dye patterns is a great choice. This too can be worn year round with a jacket or sweater thrown on over the dress in cool weather.

Skirts are a large percentage of the Jen’s Pirate Booty line. The  Jen’s Pirate Booty Drifter Skirt  is a hand dyed lace cotton crochet shirt is a great skirt if you are wanting a sift ethereal look. This skirt is neutral so it can be worn with so many different colors and styles. If you want something that shows a bit of a sexy side then the Jen’s Pirate Booty Spinner Skirt is a great choice. This wide band wrap skirt can be worn so that it gives you full coverage or shows off a leg.

Not all of the Jen’s Pirate Booty Clothing is long skirts.  There are plenty of other styles of dresses and skirts as well as tube tops, long sleeve shirts, and even accessories. There are also plenty of patterns to choose from as well.

If the clothing did not scream gypsy meets boho chic meets pirate enough already, the cleaning instructions will emphasize this point even more. “hand wash in the ocean. hang from a palm tree or lay to dry in the sand. peace, love, and happiness.” One thing to keep in mind is that the majority of the clothing is one size fits most.

The Alexis Indian Crochet Poncho is a great example of a great Boho Chic dress/ swimsuit coverup.

Summer 2011 is all about looking glamorous in a natural way. There is no way better to create this look than with a great crochet dress. With the loose open weave detailing the Alexis Indian Crochet Poncho allows you to look great without having to put a lot of effort or time into your outfit. Since the poncho is sheer you will need to wear a short slip dress underneath it if you want to wear it as a dress. Alternately, you can throw this on over your swimsuit after a day at the beach or pool. You can meet friends for drinks at a beach side bar or go grab a few essentials without having to change out of your bathing suit.

The Alexis Indian Crochet Poncho has an off the shoulder neckline, a matching crochet sash belt that can be removed if you choose to do so, and long flowing sleeves that give you coverage without adding any bulkiness to the poncho. When fall comes you can even wear this with a pair of jeans with a shirt underneath. This truly embodies all that the Boho Chic look is about and you will get so many compliments when wearing this poncho.

7 Summer Must Haves

7 Summer Must Haves

No Comments 04 June 2011

1.  Comfy, go-with-everything sandals – A comfortable pair of sandals that will go with everything is essential for summer, and with all the styles available too choose from, finding the perfect pair is easy!  Brights are definitely in this season, so grab a pair in neon yellow or pink.  If you aren’t into brights, go for a neutral or metallic, both are versatile and can be worn for day or night.

2.  Fun sunglasses - Break away from the conventional, because there are multiple ways to show your style with sunglasses this season.  Oversize 70′s glasses and cat-eyes create a chic look, while my personal favorite remains the wayfarer.  There are so many different colors and patterns to choose from as well!  So have fun with them and let your personality show.  I always have multiple pairs and colors on hand to keep my options open!

3.  The oh-so-versatile summer dress – Have at least one good summer dress that is versatile enough to wear at the beach during the day and can carry you all the way to cocktails at night, just by changing a few accessories.  Floral patterns make it so easy to do this, especially if they have a dark base, such as black or navy in the floral background.

4. Wedge or chunky heeled sandals – A lifesaver compared to stilettos, many chunky heels can actually be comfortable!  The perfect shoe to dress up or down, and can be worn with shorts, skirts, dresses and pants.  The only thing to watch out for is making sure you don’t get a style that is too bulky, especially if you have thin ankles.  The result can be quite comical when your feet look too heavy for you!

5.  Stripes! – Nautical stripes are always in for summer, but this season its all about standing out!  Having at least one navy and white striped tee in your summer wardrobe is absolutely essential, but you don’t have to limit yourself to just those colors!  Mix bright colored stripes, and even add striped accessories.  If you do keep it classic, pair the nautical stripes with white or beige bottoms, it’s a look that will always be in style.

6.  Floppy hat –They shade your face from the sun, and make any outfit look instantly more glamorous while keeping up with the seventies trend.  This is one addition you will be glad you got over anything else. I’m still looking for the perfect one, but this piece will be joining my collection very soon!

7.  The Perfect Swimsuit – Swimsuits are an area where it isn’t always best to get what’s on trend, but what is best on your body type.  Luckily, this season’s trends make it easy to find the perfect one.  Retro, vintage-inspired suits are making a huge statement for 2011, as are ruffles and crochet (not sure how I feel about this one yet – wet yarn brings an image of sagging suits in my mind).

So there you have it – your most essential summer wardrobe pieces.  If you liked this post, you can read more at my personal blog Indigo Impression for more!

The 1970s were known for bell-bottom and flare jeans but they also were a time when crochet and macrame clothing was super popular as well.  After many years of decline, crochet has been gaining popularity recently and the great dress Jennifer Aniston wears in the movie poster Just Go With It has made this trend go to the forefront.

The dress in the movie is intended as a cover up since it is quite see through but not all crochet clothing is this way. Many crochet fashions are either lined fully, lined where it is appropriate, or the crochet is a detail along the trip or sleeves. There is a huge variety of crochet clothing out there to choose from.

The fully lined
Madison Marcus Link Crochet Top
is a top that can be worn so many ways. You can pair it with jeans or pants . This top can be worn as is when the weather permits or with a great fitted jacket on colder days and nights. This is appropriate for work with a jacket or can be worn casually on the weekends.

The boho look is a very popular look right now and a good way to ease into this look is with the
Sena Crochet Wrap
. This is a great wrap to through on with a pair of jeans and a tank top or tee shirt.

The Robert Rodriguez Crochet Cropped Sweater is a must have this season. The cropped sweater is sheer so you will need to wear something underneath it. It is casual enough to wear with shorts or jeans. It is also a great pick to wear with a Maxi Skirt.

Not all crochet clothing has a soft and feminine feel to it. The
Thakoon Thakoon Addition Crochet Seam Skirt
has a bit of an edge to it with the vertical crochet seams and the contrast color hem at the bottom of this skirt.

Anna Kosturova Marissa Dress

Jennifer Aniston’s latest movie Just Go With It has just hit theaters and one of the most talked about parts of the movie has been the Anna Kosturova Marissa Dress.  In fact the movie poster has Jennifer wearing this lace up crochet dress. While the dress is not available yet, it can be pre-ordered to ensure that you have the dress to wear all summer.

Anna Kosturova is known for her resort wear. In addition to the Marissa Dress, Anna Kosturova designs other great crochet  dresses  to be worn over a bathing suit or tank top. These are  great dresses to wear for a day at the pool or beach.

If you are looking for a different style crochet dress, one that has a round boat neck collar and does not lace up then you may be interested in the Anna Kosturova Marilyn Dress. This dress as seen on Miranda Kerr will really flatter your figure and need to be worn over a bathing suit or tank top as well.

Another favorite Anna Kosturova dress is the Anna Kosturova Bardot dress.  This Vneck crochet dress is similar to the Marilyn in overall shape but is much more see though, will looser stitches so something like a bathing suit or tank top underneath is a must.
