Mad Hatter

Returning from Paphos, a sunny holiday destination, to dreary rainy ol’ England is quite depressing in itself, but what I really miss is being able to walk out in my holiday fashion attire. It was great on holiday to be able to wear lots of summery garments and seeing how other peoples summer wardrobe’s compared. I didn’t go too overboard on the fashion front as in that kind of heat I wanted to be comfortable, but there is one thing I definitely missed out on when packing – a hat.

I have never really been a hat person, they just don’t suit me and make my hair flat to my face, which really, for me, isn’t an attractive look. Whilst taking relaxing strolls around the island I saw so many girls in 1970′s style hats which looked amazing – I could definitely feel myself turning green, which is very noticeable over my burnt skin base ( ha! ). I thought I would show you a selection of hats that are a staple in this season’s look that I love, consequently unlike me, you wont miss out.

I love the bright combination of orange and purple on this hat, definitely a hit for summer. Not only will the oversized style protect your face and head from the sun ( I don’t know about you but a burning scalp is painful?) but it will accessorize a number of outfits. My choice would be to pair it with a simple black maxi dress and gold or tan sandals.

Orange Straw Stripe Floppy Hat
£25 – Topshop

Although Breakfast at Tiffany’s was a 50s film, this hat reminds me very much of Audrey Hepburn’s style. Black is classic and is the epitome of elegance, definitely one to impress.

Floral Floral Floral, this is definitely my favourite. Whimsical and summery, this beauty comes in three different colours and would look great teamed with white.

Dress Like Your Favorite Celebrity With Eugenia Kim Hats

Eugenia Kim is a hat designer that celebrities flock to. Kim Kardashian and  Paris Hilton are among those   seen out and about with a Eugenia Kim hat on. Eugenia is known for her unusual details. Vintage ribbons, chain, and leather trims  make otherwise standard and simple hats fashionable and unique.

Eugenia Kim believes that a hat can transform the shape of a face. her hats are made to flatter and complement, not overpower the face. A Eugenia Kim hat is like a sculpture meaning that it contours the flow of lines on the face. An asymmetrical brim accents the cheekbones, a large brim creates a mystery over the eyes with the shadow it creates, and a pink hat adds instant glow to the cheekbones.

The Eugenia Kim Honey Toyo Sunhat with Gold Chain is a great hat for summer. This is a simple camel colored  large brim hat but has a taupe chiffon woven in a gold chain accent that wraps around the hat and part of the brim. You can shape this hat how you want, wearing it straight across if you would like or bending it to create a shadow over part of your face.

The Eugenia Kim Max Fedora with Vintage Ribbon Band is the perfect go to hat. It matches so many outfits so well and is great for those not so perfect hair days. The cream colored hat has a vintage black and white stripe grosgrain ribbon around it.

The Eugenia Kim Kurt Straw Fedora is a light and airy hat that has great detailing on it. The hat itself is an open weave straw hat. The top of the brim has an olive silk chiffon ribbon and faux red flower.

You can not go wrong with any Eugenia Kim hats in fact you will probably want to buy more than one. You can wear a a hat to accent an outfit, accentuate your face, or cover your head when your hair is not cooperating.

Fashion Trend : The Return of the Fedora Spring Summer 2011

No Comments 26 March 2011

When one thinks of the fedora the first thing that pops into one’s mind is the iconic male accessory of the 1920s -1950s. The fedora has long been moth balled and only made a brief yet memorable emergence in the early to mid 1980s and worn by such 80s pop icons as Michael Jackson, Madonna and the Brat Pack Film Series. This spring and summer the fedora returns and not just for men but also for women.

The fedora has that classic look that sits well on the head of a well polished and tailored fashion forward person. Today the fedora continues that tradition along with a  new twist of being fun and airy.

For women the fedora is the perfect spring and summer accessory. It should be worn with a pop of color and not the standard bland and neutral tones. We prefer the hat in straw or other light materials.

The fedor is equally cool with a straight edge or curled ends. The fedora can come with several style of pinches and creases and finding the right style for yourself is part of the fun.  Wearing your hat tilted gives an extra fun look that is not possible to pull off with other summer hats such as the adorable floppy.

Summer of our favorite fedoras for 2011 come from designers such as Eugenia Kim and Juicy Couture though there are many designers who have come out with equally adorable fedoras
